A rebuild plan before a platform switch

Moving from WordPress to HTML? Bring your offer into a new design you can keep developing with AI.

A new HTML design can give your website a different frontend. It does not automatically carry over WordPress posts, plugins, accounts or history. Inventory your site, test one representative page and plan the switch before replacing production.

Sample designs · replace the fictional content with your own.

01 / Current website

What does my WordPress site actually provide?

List pages, posts, media, forms, search, roles, plugins and stored data. Record who updates content and which visitor actions must survive the change.

Checked locally on this device; nothing is submitted.

02 / Destination fit

Which WordPress capabilities must remain?

An HTML frontend may fit a presentation site. Frequent editorial work, role-based publishing, commerce or account data needs a suitable system, not only a new visual layout.

Keep a content system

Choose or retain a CMS when its workflow is essential.

Use a file-based frontend

Arrange required services and a realistic process for future updates.

Move your existing content
You

Use my current website content and image folder to personalise this template. Preserve the service names, contact details and factual claims.

AI · example response

I will map each existing page to the new sections and show what fits, needs rewriting or needs a separate page.

You

Show that mapping first. Keep the current website online while we prepare the new version.

AI · example response

I will edit a separate copy and use your approved mapping. We will plan redirects and connected forms before switching the domain.

Steps to take

  1. Collect existing content

Provide your URLs, copy, images and essential functions.

  2. Map it to the template

Ask AI to fit your content into the new structure and flag omissions.

  3. Review before switching

Review the new version, links and redirects while the original remains available.

Result to aim for: your existing business content in the new design.
Illustrative workflow. No live AI connection.

03 / Move approved content

How do I move content into a new template?

Give your AI agent your existing website URLs, approved copy and image files. Ask it to place those materials into the new template and show which old page maps to each new section. Review the result in a separate folder while the WordPress site stays online.

  1. 01

    Collect the source

Use your authorized pages, text and media with clear ownership.

  2. 02

    Map to the structure

Decide what to keep, combine, rewrite or remove.

  3. 03

    Check the adapted content

Verify that essential information and the real next action survived.

What the original instructions specify

03-orbit/RECREATE.md · L5

The guide describes the original fictional page. Keep its role separate from the changes you want for your own business.

Create exactly one file named `03 orbit.html`: a complete English-language responsive website using semantic HTML, inline CSS and inline vanilla JavaScript. No build step, framework, package manager or external JavaScript library is required. Target current desktop Chrome on macOS and a modern browser at the viewport widths specified below, using native dialog, IntersectionObserver, requestAnimationFrame, CSS custom properties and dynamic viewport units. The page is a network-runtime document: its imagery, favicon and Inter font require network access. Keep every complete media URL specified below. The layout and local interactive logic belong in the HTML file. Serve the file over localhost for normal verification; opening it through file:// may restrict the Clipboard API, for which an explicit selection/download fallback is required. No backend or form submission endpoint is part of the experience.

Map one service introduction into Orbit

03-orbit/index.html · prepared Northline Process teaching copy

The prepared file replaces the hero and one introduction using fictional content. It does not import WordPress data, posts, users or plugins. Your real content inventory and editor requirements come first.

Existing service description → rewritten introduction
Existing project photographs → permission review; sample images retained
Bookings / accounts / CMS editing → separate service or project
Old URLs → explicit destination + server redirect plan
AI ChatWorkflow example
Old URL → new URL
You

Use this list of old and new page URLs to plan redirects for my chosen host. Keep the current site running while we test.

AI · example response

I will map each old URL to the appropriate new page and use the host’s supported redirect method. I will show changes before applying them.

You

After I approve the switch, open each important old address and confirm it reaches the intended new page.

Steps to take

  1. Map the URLs

List old pages and their matching new destinations.

  2. Configure the host

Ask the agent to use that host’s documented redirect rules.

  3. Test old links

Verify the destination, then update internal links too.

Result to aim for: existing links lead visitors to the matching new content.
Illustrative workflow. No live AI connection.

04 / URL mapping

Which addresses should stay or redirect?

Keep important URLs where practical. For addresses that change, create an old-to-new URL list and ask the agent to configure redirects using your chosen host’s instructions. Check each old address after publication and update internal links; the template itself does not preserve search rankings.

Your decision Current site Rebuild plan
Page retained Existing URL and content purpose Confirm the intended final URL and equivalent useful content
Page changed Old URL and current inbound links Map a relevant destination and configure the host’s redirect
Page removed Content no longer required Decide its appropriate status; do not redirect everything to the homepage

A fictional URL map, not a redirect

Authored teaching URL ledger · server tests not performed

Keep each real old address beside its future equivalent, owner and test. A link to a page section is not a configured server redirect or proof that search traffic is preserved.

/services/workflow-review → new service page or suitable section (decide)
/wp-content/uploads/example.jpg → permissioned replacement media (decide)
/class-booking → real booking service (not supplied)
Redirect / canonical / sitemap / rollback → pending host-specific tests

Review the edited page
You

Compare the edited page with my instructions. Check the headline, image paths, navigation and contact button at desktop and phone widths.

AI · example response

I will list any differences and check what the browser actually displays. A saved file alone does not confirm the visible result.

You

The headline is cut off on my phone. Fix that without changing the copy.

AI · example response

I will adjust the responsive layout and check the same phone width again. You can then approve the result.

Steps to take

  1. Compare the changes

Check your supplied text, images and requested scope.

  2. Open the preview

Check desktop and mobile; click navigation and contact.

  3. Describe the issue

Tell the agent what is wrong and ask it to recheck the corrected view.

Result to aim for: a reviewed version you can continue editing or publish.
Illustrative workflow. No live AI connection.

05 / Representative test

What small rebuild should I test first?

Prepare one representative page first, with your real text, images and contact action. Compare it with the current page and check the online preview. That shows whether the template fits your content and required functions before you rebuild every page.

Checked locally on this device; nothing is submitted.

Keep and restore a website version
You

Before editing, save this approved website version. Set up a Git checkpoint if available and keep my original ZIP unchanged.

AI · example response

I will confirm where the saved version is before applying the next change.

You

I prefer the previous layout. Restore it, but keep the new contact email.

AI · example response

I will compare the versions, restore the previous layout and check that the contact email remains the one you requested.

Steps to take

  1. Save before editing

Keep the original ZIP and an approved folder or Git version.

  2. Name what to restore

Tell the AI which version and which elements should return.

  3. Check the restored page

Open it and verify content, layout and contact links.

Result to aim for: a deliberate return to the version you prefer.
Illustrative workflow. No live AI connection.

06 / Switch and restore

How do I plan a switch with a way back?

Preserve the WordPress site and data backups, document the hosting and DNS plan and assign responsibility. Verify redirects and live functions after switching; keep a tested rollback route.

  1. 01

    Before switching

Agree acceptance checks, backups of the WordPress files and database, and who can restore the old site.

  2. 02

    After switching

Monitor important URLs and visitor actions and repeat checks after corrections.
